Keep the rogue carrier out of the logistics chain!

In May this year, we informed you that cargo thefts are still common and what you can do to limit these cargo thefts. During a Seminar by TT Experts and TLN, we were informed about a number of additional tips & tricks that can make it more difficult for rogue carriers to get loads. In this newsletter, we share these tips & tricks with you.

Keep communicating via a platform

In our previous newsletter, we indicated that offering transports via platforms such as Teleroute should be limited as much as possible. However, you can't always avoid offering transports via platforms. After all, it also offers benefits. We recommend that you then let all communication take place via the platform. If a carrier suddenly reports to you outside the platform and wishes to continue communication in this way, this may be a sign of a rogue carrier.

Check the carrier and their vehicle

Before or while issuing the transport order, you can verify that the carrier is legitimate. You do this, for example, by checking the specified vehicle data via the RDW. You can also call or control a carrier via the internet. Even well-regarded carriers can be taken over by criminal organizations.

Note different communication

The way of communicating can also be a signal. In logistics, communication is often brief and concise. As long as there are no specific items, a carrier will ensure that it loads with the agreed combination at the agreed time and date. A rogue carrier will also want to check more often whether he will receive the full shipment and what exactly the load consists of.

Inform the loading address when withdrawing a transport order

Should you withdraw an order issued due to certain suspicions, always make sure that the loading address knows that the loading reference can no longer be used. Despite the fact that the order has been revoked, rogue carriers still want to risk it sometimes.

Walk past the truck for a round

You may also be able to unmask a rogue carrier while receiving a carrier and while loading. For example, walk around the vehicle. If the trailer is dated and dirty, but the license plate is spotless, this license plate may have recently been installed by a rogue carrier. If this license plate also consists of stickers, the chance of shady practices is even higher. A real license plate is always stamped.

Inform the police immediately if there is a well-founded suspicion

If there is a suspicion of an order accepted by a rogue carrier or when a rogue carrier is already loading, it is necessary to inform the police immediately and gather as much information as possible about this rogue carrier. In case of well-founded suspicion, you can try to commit a red act with the police at the loading address to charge the rogue carrier. While loading, try to keep the rogue carrier on your property as much and as long as possible until the police arrive. Therefore, delay loading where possible.

Your commitment pays off

The police have a special team focused on cargo thefts, which works closely with TT Experts, among others. This team regularly takes rogue carriers off the road. In addition, all available information contributes to obtaining the best possible picture of criminal organizations that hide behind rogue carriers. So the conclusion is that your efforts certainly pay off.

Only together with everyone in the logistics chain can we make it increasingly difficult for rogue carriers to get a load. So feel free to share the tips & tricks with the departments and/or people involved in your company.
